Fine win on the road

Rainey U15 team took their fine form to Mossley to play a strong Pegasus team.

As the game started Pegasus created the early chances, including one snap shot which struck the outside of Rainey’s post. However as the first half developed Rainey took control and began to dominate possession through the midfield, which created goal scoring chances.

A fine passing move involving Emma Marshall and Rachel Burns created the first goal with Rachel firing a powerful shot into the bottom left hand corner. Rainey continued to put pressure on the Pegasus defence, which led to Rainey’s centre forward Thea Corry scoring her first goal of the match with a superb finish past the goalkeeper.

The Rainey team began to spread the play and again dominate possession. Excellent passing from Lauren Mullholland and Alex Burns created the first penalty corner, which was finished by the left forward Katie Allen, to make the score 3-0.

Rainey continued to control the match through a wave of attacks; however through good defending, the score remained 3-0 at half time.

The second half started at a fast pace with Claire Holmes and Sarah McGuckin stopping the Pegasus attacks with strong defending. Annie McAllister, particularly did well to man-mark the Pegasus centre forward and reduce her to have only one shot on goal during this period.

Rainey quickly regained the initiative and created numerous chances to increase the score. Excellent play by Rachel Burns and Charlotte McKinlay, crated a penalty corner, from which Thea Corry smashed the ball into the net, to score her well deserved second goal and to make 4-0.

Rainey kept the pressure on the Pegasus team for the rest of the match and were unlucky not to score more goals. The team wish to thank the vocal supporters who watched this entertaining game.
