Finvoy are crowned champions

Their last game was against second placed Moneydig and there was high drama right up to the end. Chris Jones with just one bowl left in his game with Trevor Workman kept a cool head to take out two of Moneydigs’ lying bowls to win the match. In the first half David Wright had put the home team in front when he beat Gary McCloy (F’voy), but then Adam Hunter nosed Finvoy ahead with a comprehensive win against Brian McFetridge (M’dig). In the other game Willie Knight (M’dig) had a good win against big Joe Moore (M’dig) winning 11-5 .

With Dunluce beating St. Colman’s 4 ½ points to 2 ½ things are really hotting up in Division 1. Although St. Colman’s are still favourites to win the title they cannot afford any more defeats. This week sees fourth play second and third play first so things could really get interesting.

Alastair McIntyre set Dunluce on the road to victory by beating Paul McCook (St. Colman’s) 10-4. David Walker (St. Colman’s) and Alastair Kirkpatrick drew, 8-8. Aaran Tennant gained a second point for St. Colman’s with a one shot win against Rodney Kane (Dunluce). In the last game Martin McAleese (St. Colman’s) beat Uel McKeeman (Dunluce) 9-6 but it was not enough to get his team the overall score.

St. Mary’s are also in the hunt after a big away win against Ballinrees. Liam Ferris put the visitors on the score board with a 12-5 win over Victor Millen (B’rees). Russell Kennedy steadied the boat for Ballinrees by drawing with Declan McCann (St. Mary’s) 9-9. In the second half David Gaile (St. Mary’s) scrambled a one shot victory over Jonathan Calvin (B’rees) but Jordan Mullan earned St. Mary’s the bonus points with his fine win against William Calvin (B’rees).
