First medal win of season for Brendan

There were 140 competitors signed in for this popular stroke competition. First place went to Brendan McAleenan, playing off a 13 handicap, with a return of nett 65.

Brendan got off to a par start at the first to set the tone for the rest of the round with six pars and three

bogeys on the front nine for a return of 38 strokes.

Three pars and a birdie at the 11th on the back nine saw Brendan home in 40 strokes and this was good enough to win his first medal of this season.

Second spot was taken with a return of nett 68 by Aaron Lamont, playing off 12, with seven pars and two

bogyes on the front nine for 38 strokes.

The back nine however played that little bit harder with Aaron returning a score of 42 strokes to get in the prizes.

Third place with a nett 69 went to Derek Boyde with a front nine of 46 strokes.

Derek must have thought his chances of returning a winning card was slim but a great back nine of one over 38 got him into the prizes again, not for the first time this year.

The gross was won by Fintan McAreavey, playing off a five handicap, who returned a two over 74 for a nett 69. It was good to see Fintan back playing at home having been away due to work commitments.

Fourth place went to Steven Cocker, playing off a 13 handicap. Steven also had a nett 69 with 40 strokes on the front and 42 on the back.

Fifth spot went to Martin O’Hagan also with a nett 69. Playing off 15 Martin had 38 over the front nine and 46 over the back nine.

The seniors’ winner was the evergreen Ernest McBride who, playing off a 20 handicap, returned a nett 71.

Ernie said the course was set up for him, playing long and wet, making it easy for the big hitting Ernie.

Section winners were: Conor Jordan, 0-12; David Mulholland, 13-18; Alan Johnson, 19-28.

There were 17 twos and a low dividend forecast was forecast.

The midweek sweep was won by Paddy Lavery, playing off an eight handicap, with 39 points.

Second was Paul Toman with 36 points and third went to Conall Kerr, also on 36 points

The Juniors section winner was Sean Curran with 44 points.
