First points of the season for Amateurs

Mossley YM 0

Dromore Amateurs 2

DROMORE Amateurs notched up their first league points on Saturday with this impressive 2-0 victory over Mossley YM.

A goal in each half from man-of-the-match Colin Gilliland was enough to ensure the Amateurs ran out deserved winners.

The striker’s first was a tap-in from close range but his second was quite special – a left-footed strike from 25 yards which curled into the top corner.

This was a morale-boosting result for the Amateurs. Mossley had their moments but overall it was Dromore who dominated and defended their lead comfortably.

Manager Barry Taylor was delighted with his side’s much-improved performance and will be expecting his players to maintain this high standard from now on.

But if the game had been scored on heart and commitment, the truth is that Dromore might just have edged it.

The Amateurs had just the bare requisite of eleven players – and four of those were U18s who had already played a game that morning.

But with the odds stacked against, Dromore were fearless in taking on their Belfast opponents and each player deserves huge credit for their workrate and the fact they never gave up.

* Congratulations to the first 100 Club winner, Victor McNeill, who scooped 25 after his number – 52 – was drawn out on Saturday.

There are just a handful of numbers left in the 100 Club – anyone looking to sign up should speak to a committee member.

* This weekend, the firsts will need to be at the top of their game again as they play host to a Mossley side who will no doubt be out for revenge. Kick off at Ferris Park is 2pm. The Seconds take to the road to play St Oliver Plunkett IIs.
