First silverware of season up for grabs

Fountain Bar, Drifters, BT/PO Club and Towers Tavern will compete for the Charity Cup at the Clough Rangers Club, while Slemish Tavern, Greenhills Bar, Ladysmith and Knockeden Lodge will contest the Fountain Cup at the Fountain Bar.

The semi-final line-ups were decided after the quarter-finals of both competitions took place last Friday night.

The Drifters were in ominously good form as they whitewashed Clough Rangers, dropping just three legs on the night.

Elsewhere, Knockeden Lodge produced arguably the most eye-catching performance of the night when they came from four games down against Fountain Arrows to win 5-4.

Three players - Clifford Marcus (Michelin) and Drifters duo John Elder and David McFall – all hit 15-dart legs, while other notable legs came from: 16 - John Elder, David McFall, Davy Martin, Geoffrey Matthews; 17 - Ashley Rainey, Mike Stubbs, Fred McDowell; 18 - Glenn Gilmour, Gabriel Kerr; 19 - Brian Elder, Gabriel Kerr; 20 - Davy Martin, Geoff Wylie, Seamus Butler, Ian Reynolds; 21 - Gary Dempster, Frank McDowell, Paul McCaughren, Geoff McIlveen, Irene Lowry, Gabriel Kerr, Joe Kidd, Ian Reynolds.

Joe Kidd (Slemish) had the best finish of the week with a 158 checkout, followed by: 110 - Sammy Givens (H&J); 100 - Ashley Rainey (Drifters); 80 - Irene Lowry (Swifts); 71 - Glenn Gilmour; and 70 - Tommy Wallace (BT/PO).

Billy Gay (BT/PO) and Paul Adams (Slemish) each hit 180s.
