First win for Mid-Ulster

THE Lurgan Mid-Ulster side gained their first win of the season againist Richhill last Thursday evening.

On rink one Richhill found the rink of M.Parr, J. McCullough, R. McCullough and skipped by W. McCullough hard to handle on the night.

The Lurgan rink after five ends were drawing four all. However Lurgan stepped up a gear and by the tenth end were leading 16–6. Due to the rain the match was called in after twelve ends with Lurgan winning 18-7. This was Michael Parr’s first ever outdoor match and was praised by the Richhill skip D. Blakely.

On rink two V. Delvin, M. Steen, R. McCarthy and P. McGrail (skip) found the going easy in the first six ends leading 9–2 but the second half was shared by the two teams winning three ends each with the final score 17–9 for Lurgan.

On rink three R. Livingstone, G. Whitehead, C. Maguire and D. Henderson could not match the Richhill rink skipped by G. Elliott.

In the first six ends the Richhill rink had built up a lead of 8-3 but in the second half of the match pulled away from Lurgan with a final score of 22-4. Again Lurgan had another new person playing for their first time outdoors in G. Whitehead.

The two Mid-Ulster teams both went out of the cup with Lurgan 1 losing out to Cookstown by 38 shots.

Lurgan 2 went to play Dungannon on Thursday night in the heavy rain and won by one shot but lost out by 11 shots over the two legs.
