Firsts undone by strong pack

Strabane started strongly and were 3-0 up within 12 minutes with a penalty following strong play from Strabane’s pack.

Strabane extended their lead with a pushover try to make the score 10-0.

Lurgan’s best period of play came before half time when two Stephen Nolan penalties either side of a Greg Lyness try put the Lurgan men in front at 10-13.

Within eight minutes of the restart Strabane regained the lead following intense pressure on the Lurgan line. They scored another try shortly after to leave the score at 24-13.

Nolan added another penalty to put Lurgan within eight points, but Strabane hit back with an uncoverted try.

Another rally from Lurgan produced a try from Nolan but no further scores meant the game finished 29-21.

Overall, Lurgan were outmatched in the scrum and while their backline was superior to Strabane they could do little without the ball.
