Fit and Running trio on '˜trail' of five-mile success

Fit N Running had three athletes in action as Northern Ireland Running hosted their annual 5mile trail race at Killylane on Saturday morning.

Mark McKinstry put his recent illness behind him as he secured victory in a new course record time. He was out of the blocks fast and had Johnny Steede of Glens runners as company for the first mile before moving through the gears to finish in 26mins 34secs. Steed was a good second with Andy Guy filling the podium positions.

Conor Shiels produced a gutsy performance coming home in 4th in a time of 30mins 8secs.

His namesake Vernon claimed 10th place in 31mins 31secs.

WHITEHEAD 5 MILE RACE

Colin Apperley was in action at Whitehead on Easter Monday and finished in 22nd place crossing the line in 30mins 17secs

WEEKLY TRAINING

Fit N Running weekly sessions and times are as follows:

Monday 615pm Recreational Run

Wednesday 615pm Conditioning Circuit class.

Thursday 430pm Elite Development squad training.

Thursday 630pm Flexibility Class

There is also an adfitional session on Saturday morning for the advanced group.

All these sessions are from the Michelin Athletic Club on the Woodside Road in Ballymena. Newcomers welcome.
