Fit N Running members dominate prizes at NI championships

Fit N Running athletes linked up with their North Belfast Harriers club mates to dominate the prizes at the Northern Ireland 10k road race championships on Sunday afternoon.

Gifted 12 year old Rebecca Wallace opened proceedings with a resounding victory in the junior mile road race from a fully subscribed field of 200 entrants.

She looked superb, breaking the tape to rapturous applause from the huge crowd in a time of 5 mins 50 secs.

Mark McKinstry who continues to impress on the big stage didn’t disappoint as he lead North Belfast Harriers to team gold and the Northern Ireland title.

On a wind swept course Mark’s late surge saw him move through the field to finish in 6th place from a field of 1000 starters. He crossed the line on a huge personal best time of 33mins 4 secs.

North Belfast made it a double success with a decisive victory in the ladies team race.

Fit N Running’s other 4 athletes in action continued their endless run of progress with another personal best apiece.

James Wallace took third in his age group as he broke 37 mins for the first time finishing in 36mins 49 secs.

Hot on his heels and third junior in a personal best was 16 year old Connor McQuillan in 37mins 11 secs.

Paula Wallace claimed fifth in her age group as she recorded another much improved time finishing in 46mins 40 secs.

Recent recruit Michael Sloan on his debut for the club smashed last year’s time from the same course by over two minutes when he finished in 49mins 34 secs.

BEGINNERS’ CLASS

The club currently have two beginners classes. The first group will successfully complete their 8 week course this Monday evening.

The second group began their 8 week course on Monday evening where they will go from scratch to 35 - 40 mins running.

Fit N Running also have an intermediate runners class on Monday evenings, an advanced. class on Tuesday evenings and a strength conditioning circuit class on Wednesday evenings. All of these start at 615pm.
