Five goal thriller ends in defeat for Banbridge

Banbridge Ladies First XI played their last game of the season last Wednesday night at Havelock Park and ended up losing the tightest of matches 3-2 to Armagh.

The visitors started the game with an onslaught on the Banbridge goal.

Fresh from her heroics for Banbridge Academy, Sarah McCabe in goals pulled off some super saves but near the end of the first half, Armagh scored from a well executed short corner that was deflected in to give them the lead.

Banbridge retaliated with some excellent passing which resulted in a well deserved goal from Alex Jenkinson. This left it at 1-1 going into the second half.

The second half saw Banbridge determined to score and had more confidence within their ability to pass the ball and make goal scoring opportunities.

Unfortunately for the hosts, Armagh scored from Banbridge, overturning the ball to again take the lead.

Banbridge didn’t drop their heads and came back with a well taken goal from Cathy Rees

With little between the teams, it could have gone either way but Armagh applied more pressure which resulted in them winning a short corner.

Banbridge conceded a flick from this short corner that resulted in a goal for Armagh to take the win .

This was a heart stopping game to watch with both sides playing a very high standard of hockey.
