Both players had been training round the clock in the year leading up to the event and enjoyed great success on the day, coming away with a total of five gold medals between them.

This was a dream come true for the Northern Ireland pair and was a testament to their hard work and dedication. Of particular note was Peter’s impressive performance in the men’s age 40-49 under 68kg sparring division, where he faced a talented Brazilian opponent.

Peter gained an early lead and maintained this across all three rounds, scoring with one shot to the head and several to the body. With a final score of 5-1 he secured a well deserved gold medal. What made this day even more special was the chance to perform in front of a home crowd filled with fellow club members, friends and family.

Peter, chief instructor at Lisburn Taekwondo, would like to thank all those who came along to show their support. Thanks must also go to Sport Lisburn for their continued support and generosity. Having gained a taste of victory here, both Peter and Clare now have their sights set on competing at the next games in Fairfax, Virginia in 2015.
