Five mile Time Trial on the Collins Circuit

LAST Tuesday, April 2nd, saw Bann Wheeelers Cycling Club hold the inaugural time trial on the Collins Circuit at Aghadowey.

After the recent bad weather of high winds and freezing temperatures 24 riders were blessed with near perfect conditions, albeit cold. Times for the night were excellent with Ballymoney Cycling Club’s Steven McCallister fastest with a blistering time of 11.37. Steven was followed by Bann Wheeelers Sharman Crawford on 12.09 in second place, who was quoted as saying after the race, “I didn’t really push it!”

Bann Wheeelers Russell Callaghan set an excellent new Presonal Best of 12.19 placing him third overall.

This was also the first time trial for a number of Bann Wheeelers who all performed well and with most times close the time trial league will make for healthy competition this year. Worthy of note amongst those taking part in their first race was Bann Wheeelers Jane Millar, who romped home in a time of 14.04, watch out boys!

Bann Wheeelers would like to express their gratitude to timekeepers, Mary and Fast-Eddie McKinney, along with marshalls Andy Bate, Bobby Kane and Neil Clarke. Club Chairman Charlie Wright said it was encouraging to see a number of outside club members compete and that all other clubs who’s members hold CI licences, are more than welcome at all future TTs and races.

The first 10-mile TT of the BWCC season takes place on Tuesday 9 April on the Kilrea Road at 7pm. This is open to all other cycling clubs. Everyone very welcome to come along and participate.
