Five star South Seconds await results for news of their promotion fate

Instonians 3rds 0

South Antrim 2nds 5

South Antrim Seconds concluded their league campaign with a comfortable win against a relegated Instonians 3rd XI.

The victory means that the Lisburn team must await the result of other games to find out if they are to achieve their goal of promotion to Junior League 1.

This was a fitting end to the season for South Antrim as they have played good hockey throughout with only one or two below power performances.

Despite that South can be proud of their record and can certainly build on this for next season.

It was clear in this encounter that South were always the stronger team and the first half saw them dominate for large parts of the game.

By half-time, the Lisburn team surprisingly had only one goal to show for their dominance of possession through a sublime John Semple reverse shot.

In the second half South picked up the tempo and the composure in front of goal and it wasn’t long before Neil Wilson added to his tally for the season with a smart first time finish after great approach work from John Semple.

Wilson grabbed his second shortly afterwards with a strong reverse shot from the edge of the circle.

This goal effectively ended the game as a contest and South got their fourth when Andy Hanley found Mark Conn on the right hand side of the circle who deftly played the ball to Craig Campbell who gratefully dispatched the ball inside the near post.

The scoring was completed when John Semple got the fifth of the game and his second by deflecting home a pass from Neil Wilson at a penalty corner routine.

South will be pleased with this performance and the season as a whole. A number of positives emerged from this campaign with young players such as Jack Redpath, Andy Hanley, Jack Moore, Jo Novares and James Brown all making an impact. Things are looking bright for South Antrim Seconds.
