Five star Thirds take the spoils against Banbridge

Lisnagarvey Thirds 5 Banbridge Seconds 0

Garvey Thirds brought off a memorable 5-0 victory over Banbridge Seconds at Comber Road. After missing two open chances they took the lead early on through Davey Patton and never looked back as the visitors struggled to keep up with the quick passing of the Thirds.

Ian Harbinson gave them a 2-0 lead at the half time interval and while Garvey were waiting for a Banbridge backlash, it never came and it was the Thirds who increased their lead to 3-0 when Jake Surgeon scored a fine goal from 10 yards out.

The day got even better when Banbridge conceded an own goal and Matthew Gleave added goal number five to give the Thirds a great start to their league campaign.

Unfortunately, the game was stopped early due to a leg injury to the Thirds captain, Seb Buser but after treatment in hospital he is well on the mend but will miss a number of games for a Thirds team which looks like causing many upsets in Junior 1 this season.

Immediately after the Thirds’ success, Garvey Fourths also recorded a fine 5-2 win over Banbridge Fourths. Again the home side were never under any pressure from their opponents and after Jamie Mulholland had opened the scoring after 15 minutes and Ryan Donaldson had added number two the league points were safely in the bag.

Mulholland scored a second early in the second half and Mark Cockram and Bruce Agnew completed the scoring with goals number four and five following a brief come back from Banbridge when they managed to slot two goals of their own.
