FIVE tries from turbo-charged centre James Waugh saw Bann’s U-15 side win the second of their Group games in the Ulster Cup.

Bann were missing four regulars but the squad strength is such that the team still carried too much firepower for an Inishowen side that battled throughout for no ultimate reward.

The other tries were well-taken by William Wilson and Josh Cromie, with the excellent Michael Moore adding three conversions.

Although the backs scored all the tries on this occasion the platform was set by the forwards with notable contributions from Matthew Beck, Adam Copes and Alexander Megaw, who was outstanding at No 8. Jake Dennison at prop is improving with every game and is a great asset to the squad.

The younger members of the squad including Robin Hewitt, Jake Chambers and Matthew Taylor played with a lot of heart against the large visiting pack.

Coach Richard Jennings was well pleased with the performance but added a note of caution. “The team is improving with every game,” he said, “but the players need to keep their focus if they are to fulfil their potential.”
