Focus switches to end-of-season competitions

WITH the league campaigns having finished in the Ballymena and District Snooker league the teams now focus their attention on the remaining cup competitions namely the Knockout Cup, Robert McFall Memorial Trophy and Gerard Robb Memorial Trophy.

The Knockout Cup has reached the semi final stage with Dunloy Cowboys up against Minnesota B and cup holders Fountain Jokers taking on Rafters Potters.

Dunloy Cowboys reached the last four by defeating Parochial Lions in Round 1 before emerging victorious in a last frame decider against Parochial Hawks in the quarter final.

Minnesota B eased past Dunloy United in Round 1 and then recorded a comfortable victory over their Minnesota A clubmates at the quarter final stage. Minnesota B the only Division One side left in the competition will start as favourites but they should not under-estimate the Cowboys who had a good season in Division Two.

The second semi final should be a good contest between the Division Two champions and reigning Knockout Cup holders Fountain Jokers and Rafters Potters who finished runners up in Division Two.

Jokers came through the first round with a comfortable win at Rafters Potters before ousting the talented Rafters Runners team in a final frame decider in the quarter finals. Rafters Potters required extra time to see off Dunloy Galaxy in the opening round before having a much more straightforward win at Minnesota Strikers in the quarter finals. This promises to be a close contest with the need for a deciding frame being a distinct possibility.

Meanwhile the two end of season Memorial trophy quarter finals will take place next Monday, April 19.
