THIS week's Football Gossip starts with confirmation Mervyn 'Tubes' McIntyre has stepped aside as manager of Finvoy.

Speculation had been circulating for some weeks that Tubes wouldn't be in the post come the start of the season.

We understand he will take time to consider his next move but don't be surprised if the popular McIntyre is back in football before too long.

There will be a gaping hole left in the Hutchinson Tiles League programme this season following the news Taverners will not compete in the competition.

However - as we told you some weeks ago - one side which will be taking part is Glebe Rangers' second string.

Last week we revealed Davy Patton had been training with Glebe with an eye to signing for Gareth Scott's men.

However, the hotshot striker has instead opted to join Johnny Law's Tobermore as both a player and assistant manager.

Football Gossip thinks the man in his sights may be none other that former Dervock gaffer Oliver Laverty who - if given the nod - may bring a couple of the club's players with him.

Glebe trio Trevor Parkhill, Tommy Elder and Stuarty Moore have been called up to the Northern Ireland Junior Select Squad as has Ballymoney's Michael McQuitty.
