FOOTBALL: Killowen Cup success for Christie Memorial

DH Christie Memorial Primary School won all three of their final group matches to lift the Killowen Cup at Rugby Avenue.

During the initial stages of the competition, DH Christie finished top of their group following wins over Hezlett, St. Patricks & St. Brigid's from Ballycastle and a draw with Portstewart.

On finals day, Christie started strongly against a very good St Malachy's team. Team captain Ross McElfatrick was on target with the only goal which clinched an evenly fought contest.

Next for Christie were cup holders, Millburn. A goal from Andy Donnell and an excellent solo effort from Louis McPeak was enough to see off Millburn 2-1.

In their final match against St Colum's from Portstewart the first half was an evenly matched contest. St Colum's missed a penalty which was well saved by the Christie goalkeeper Jack Reid.

Christie continued to press forward in the second half and finally got their reward with the winner from Ross McElfatrick.

Three wins from three matches was enough for a deserved Killowen Cup win for the Christie boys. The team included Jack Reid, Cealyn Stewart, Joshua Wan, Louis McPeak, Ross Vance, Ross McElfatrick, Andy Donnell, Christopher O'Neill, Neil Graham and Matthew Boreland.

Teacher and coach, Chris Murdock, was absolutely delighted with the boys' success.

He said: "The boys have been playing really well this year but haven't always got their deserved rewards. Finally it has all come together and credit must go to them for all their hard work in training and during matches throughout the year."

Chris went on to thank the parents, especially Robert Vance, and staff from the Christie for their support and help throughout the year.
