FOOTBALL: Leon's raring to go

COLERAINE'S latest signing, Leon Knight, says he can't wait to get back to doing what he does best - scoring goals!

It's been a frustrating time for the much travelled 28-year-old. A move to Conference side Darlington fell through last month as Knight's former club Rushden & Diamonds refused to release his registration.

But Darlington's loss is the Bannsiders gain, and speaking after his first training session on Tuesday night the Londoner is hoping to make a big impression in the Irish Premiership.

"It feels good to be here," said Knight. "It's always nice to be playing football as it's my trade. "I'm thankful the Gaffer's given me the opportunity to come here and I'm looking forward to knuckling down and getting playing again.

"I had a good chat with the manager this afternoon and he's told me what he wants from me which is basically goals.

"Everyone's been really friendly. They work hard together and there's a few good players out there. You can see their attitude is right and they want to win. That's what I want and that's why I've come here.

"I've had a load of new challenges in my career so far, all of them were different and all as exciting as each other and this is no different.

"It's a new league and experience but I'm just looking to do what I know I can do and we'll take it from there."

Coleraine is Knight's 14th club after playing in every English division outside of the Premier League, the Scottish Premier League and First Division and in Greece during the last decade.

International clearance has yet to be secured, but the Bannsiders are hopeful that everything will be in place for Knight to make his debut at Glenavon on Saturday.

"Hopefully everything will be sorted out so I can play on Saturday," said Knight.

"There shouldn't be any problems with the clearance we're hopeful it will be through by Thursday which will be great as I can't wait to crack on."

And Knight had a special message for the fans.

"From what I hear we have a good support and they have a big part to play in helping us climb up the league."

Knight added: "A few of the fans have been on my Twitter page wishing me well and I've had a few fans from other teams giving me a bit of stick too, but it's all good banter."
