FOOTBALL: New signing enjoying life at the Showgrounds

COLERAINE'S latest goal scoring hero is refusing to rule out extending his stay at The Showgrounds.

Leon Knight burst onto the Irish League on Saturday with a brace to help the Bannsiders secure their first win at Glenavon since February 2006.

His two predatory strikes had Coleraine fans licking their lips in anticipation for the remaining games this season. But the much-travelled Londoner might just be tempted to extend his stay beyond this term.

Speaking after the game the 28-year-old, who has penned a deal until the end of the season, refused to rule out a longer spell in the province.

"I'm taking each game as it comes," said Knight.

"At the moment I'm not looking any further forward than next Saturday's game. Whatever happens happens. I approach my career like I play on the pitch and I play off the cuff.

"Like I say whatever happens in the future happens.

"I'm not planning anything. If it means I stay here for two or three years then I'll stay here. If I leave at the end of the season then that's that."

The striker was clearly revelling in being back playing football again after several months of frustration as he tried to sort out his future.

And he said it was a 'dream' to get off to a flying start.

"It's a dream for me really to score two on my debut and for us to win the game," he said.

"The lads did well today. I've heard that's our first win here for a while, which is very pleasing.

"I'm pleased with my goals. The first 'Boycie' flicked it on and I just nicked in front of the defender keeping my body between him and the ball.

"I just kept my composure and made sure I put my foot through the ball and thankfully it went in.

"Just before the second I picked up a bit of a knock. It wasn't a bad injury. One of the defenders stepped back and accidentally trod on my instep.

"It was sore when it happened and the manager asked me if I wanted to come off, but I was okay and thankfully I came back on and scored what turned out to be the winner.

"Glenavon did well, they are a tough side. They got the ball in to the box quickly and caused a few problems, but credit to the lads they defended well.

"I know we conceded one but they had a fair bit of possession in the first half and we dealt with everything they threw at us."

Knight also revealed that his debut was almost delayed as Coleraine went in search of his registration.

"First we thought my registration was at Hamilton, then we tried Queen of the South, but eventually we traced it down at Darlington," he revealed.

"It was a bit of a worry because I really wanted to play and I knew it all had to be sorted out on Friday afternoon.

"But I got a text from the secretary on Thursday evening telling me everything was sorted and I was free to play, which was very pleasing."

His new boss David Platt was equally pleased.

"Leon has come with a very big reputation, but he hasn't played a lot of football in the last six to 10 months," said Platt. "So for him to get two chances and take them as well as he did, is very pleasing."
