FOOTBALL: Peacocks runners up at Hillsborough tournament

LAST Saturday Bertie Peacock Youths Under-10's travelled to Belfast to take part in the Hillsborough Boys football tournament.

The boys came up against sides such as Dungoyne Youth, St Oliver Plunkett and Hillsborough Boys to name but a few. The team qualified for the semi final by finishing second in their group, where they faced favourites Portadown, winners of group two, who had won all their group games by at least three or four goals.

From the kick off Peacock's proved they were up for the task keeping the free scoring Ports at bay.The game went to penalties with the Coleraine lads holding their nerve scoring four as keeper Ross Henderson denied the opposition as they could only beat him twice.

In the final the boys faced local side Hillsborough Boys, which proved a hurdle too far as the team were narrowly beaten 3-2.

Peacock's were awarded their runners up medals at the end which they richly deserved after a very enjoyable, but energy sapping day's football.

Training continues at Coleraine College every Wednesday from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Meanwhile Peacocks 1998's were knocked out of the cup competition at Hillsborough but their strong results propelled them into the Plate Final where they put up one of their best performances of the day, recording a fine 4 - 0 victory, making sure the boys didn't come back down the road empty handed. Goal scorers on the day were Kyle McGonigle (2), Ross McElphatric, Callum O'Neill, Matthew Forgrave, Andy Donnell, Oran McAteer, Daniel Bradley.
