St Malachy's were on top for the first half and could have added to their advantage through efforts from Aaron Doherty and skipper Kyle McGonigle who had an excellent game in midfield.

The boys in green never allowed Millburn to get into any rhythm and their defence dealt well with any attacks.

Millburn did rally well, particularly towards the end of the game but they found Saints keeper Brandon Stockman in good form.

St Malachy's held on to take a deserved victory and claim their 11th victory in the schools competition to Millburn's ten.

St Malachy's coach, Gerry McAleese said: "I think the key was that our team never allowed Millburn to settle on the ball and our midfield and defence put a lot of pressure on them.

"St Malachy's and Millburn have had some great matches down the years in this competition and we always knew it was going to be a difficult match.

"Kyle McGonigle had a very good game in midifield and I think he was the difference between the two sides."

Afterwards the trophy was presented by John Lennox, grandson and David Shirlow, great grandson of the late and great Jack Doherty.
