FOOTBALL: Taylor looking forward to Glenavon tie

PORTSTEWART crashed out of the Craig Memorial North West Junior Cup on Saturday.

A disappointed seasiders boss, Gary Taylor, told The Times on Monday that it "was just one of those days".

His side travelled to Moyola for the encounter, and despite having all the play, the visitors left with a 2-0 defeat.

The home side took the lead after seven minutes, a looping header catching out the Portstewart defence.

Both James and Owen Peden had efforts after this, but it just wasn't to be.

Ten minutes from time Moyola doubled their lead, before Bryan Tosh missed from the spot to sum up a bad day for Portstewart.

"We had all the play, but just couldn't score, " Gary told Times Sport.

"We played like we did against Institute, but we didn't really create any clear cut chances, and their goals were both errors on our part."

Gary admitted that the players had taken part in penalty competition during training last week: "The funny thing is that Bryan scored every penalty and won the competition, it just wasn't to be for us. It's a pity because it was a competition I would have liked to have won."

Gary now has to gee his side up ahead of their clash with Glenavon in the CIS Cup this Saturday.

"I have no game plan," he said.

" I will be telling my boys to go out and enjoy the day. There is no pressure on us, I just want them to show people that we can play a bit of football.

"We have some decent young players - the Peden brothers and young Bryan Tosh. If we play out of our skin I will be happy, no matter what the score is.

"It'll be a good experience, Marty will without doubt have his boys geared up, but we have to enjoy the day, it's a great ground and they are a good team."

Graham Vauls, Mervyn Nicholl and Ryan McAllister are unlikely to be fit for the game.

Ryan has been out for a year following a leg break early last season. "All three are working very hard to get back. I would be hopeful that they will get a Reserve game under their belt this week, but I doubt that any of them will be fully fit for Saturday, " admitted Gary.
