A good away point for the Dollybirds

The first 20 minutes were non eventful until Glen Hand fired home from the edge of the area after the ball had not properly been cleared following a free kick on the left hand side of the area.

Then on 27 minutes the home team thought they were back in the game when the referee awarded them a penalty following a foul by King, but much to the disagreement of the home team the referee then awarded only a free kick on the edge of the area after consultation with his linesman who was better positioned.

This sparked angry scenes with the home officials but even the two Sporting Leisure players sitting in the stand agreed the initial challenge was outside the box.

Hand then nearly further increased Dollingstown’s lead on 36 minutes when his vicious free kick was pushed over the bar by the keeper.

Sport and Leisure started strongly in the second half with the wind on their backs and almost scored immediately but their free kick by the full back hit the back post and was cleared.

Then on 55 minutes they did get a penalty when Moffett went to ground and was adjudged to have fouled their striker. The captain duly stepped up to convert and bring the sides level.

The game petered out after this in the final 15 minutes with neither side looking like getting a winner.

Another poor game overall on a tough pitch but next season Dollingstown will need to recruit more winners to the team if they are to make further strides forward in senior football.

On Tuesday night Dollingstown picked up three points with a 1-0 win over Portstewart at Planters Park.

Subs used were Denver, Cunningham and Wright with Ringland and Donaghy not used.

On Saturday Dollingstown are away to Coagh United.
