Academy in Cup action

Cup fever gripped the Academy at Lisburn Distillery this week as all the teams tried to make it through to the semi-finals, with the U15s and U16s securing impressive victories and continuing their cup runs.

The U17s, U14s, U13s and U12s were all unsuccessful in their attempts but the strength of the Academy was shown with six teams in the quarter-finals.

After their 100% season record ended last week, the U17s saw their chance of making it a Lisburn League clean sweep disappear when they were beaten 3-2 by Hillsborough. For the second week in a row, the Whites lost 3-2 after having a man sent off and conceding two penalties didn’t help their cause.

The two teams to successfully navigate their way through their quarter-finals were the Dundee Utd bound U15s and U16s who secured impressive 6-0 and 1-0 wins over Apex and Shankill respectively.

The U14s narrowly lost 3-2 to unbeaten local rivals Lisburn Youth while the U13s 4-1 loss to Shankill didn’t reflect the close nature of the game. The U12s’ good cup run also came to an end with a 6-1 defeat.

At mini soccer the U9s played really well against St. Oliver Plunkett while the U-8s and U-10s came up against excellent Ardoyne teams were Jack Bonar and Noah Kelly got goals.
