Academy team performs well at Premiership launch

The Academy 2004 squad had the honour of taking part in the Danske Bank Premiership League Launch representing both Coleraine FC Academy and Coleraine FC.

The 10 strong squad and coaches left Coleraine mid afternoon with plenty of chat on the mini bus about which of the other Premiership Youth teams they would be up against and would Billy get them to the right location on time. The boys arrived in good time for their opening friendly against Warrenpoint the Coleraine lads winning 2-0 with a header from Bobby Miller being pick of the goals, next up Cliftonvile which despite a solid game we lost 3-1.

With little time to catch their breath the boys were back on the pitch facing Portadown this time. With arguably one of their best games of the evening the boys were unfortunate not to take the honours in this game having to settle for a 3-1 scoreline. During a short break the squad enjoyed participating in a skills training game called quick feet which they thoroughly enjoyed.

It was soon back on the pitch this time taking on Ards and drawing 0-0, there were some great chances during the match but we just couldn’t find the net. Derby rivals Ballymena were up next and Coleraine should their ability once more claiming the victory with a goal from Rafferty to leave the final score at 1-0.

This was a great night’s football from all the 04 teams who had the honour of representing their club.

On behalf of all the coaches the academy would like to thank Howard Beverland and Stephen Lowry for coming down to watch and support the boys in some a couple of the boys games.

It’s great to see the Senior Squad taking an interest in the Academy.
