Aghalee's bid for promotion stays on track after win

Aghalee Village F.C. continued to press for promotion with a 5-0 win over Hillsborough Boys last Saturday, largely due to a first half hat trick from Davy Costello.

Micky Tohill opened the scoring on 10 minutes when he headed home a well-taken free kick from Paul Lenaghan.

Five minutes later, Michael Connon then lobbed the ball over a few Hillsborough defenders for Davy Costello to volley home.

On the half hour mark Michael Connon took a corner kick and Davy Costello headed home at the back post.

Unfortunately Aghalee were then reduced to 10 men when Barry Doherty retaliated after being fouled and the referee gave him a red card.

However, Aghalee continued to dominate and just before half-time Michael Connon again assisted with a through ball for Davy Costello to calmly slot home for his hat-trick and give Aghalee a 4-0 half time lead.

This was Costello’s final contribution in the game as he came off injured.

During the second half Aghalee played a defensive game and Paddy Reilly, Ryan McKenna and Anto Diamond made important challenges to prevent Hillsborough scoring.

With 10 minutes remaining Aghalee’s Paddy Reddick went on a run and was fouled inside the penalty area.

He recovered and took the penalty himself with a low shot into the corner and give his team a 5-0 win.
