All-BSML Junior Shield final still on cards

THE prospect of an all-Ballymena Saturday Morning League County Antrim Junior Shield final remains very much on course after the two local representatives were kept apart in last night’s (Monday) semi-final draw.

Harryville Homers will play Basement YM on Tuesday, March 20, provisionally at Ballyclare Comrades’ Dixon Park ground, while Carniny Rangers take on Valley Rangers the following evening, with Lisburn Distillery’s Ballyskeagh ground the provisional venue.

It keeps alive the prospect of the ‘Big Two’ of the Saturday Morning League meeting in the final on May 2, which would be a mouth-watering prospect for local football fans.

“An all BSML final is still a distinct possibility and if it happens you can be sure we’ll be talking to Ballymena Council to have the game staged at the Showgrounds,” said Saturday Morning League chairman Davy King.

Carniny joining their great rivals in the last four of the prestigious Paddy Power-sponsored competition at the weekend.

Chris Dowie struck the only goal as Robert Young’s men beat Castlewellan Town in a delayed quarter-final tie.

Elsewhere, it was a busy weekend of league and cup competitions as teams get down to the ‘business end’ of the season.
