'All our games are winnable' - says Cullen

GOALKEEPER Gavin Cullen believes one victory could change Institute's entire season and he hopes that win will come this weekend at fellow strugglers Lisburn Distillery.

The ex-Newry City net-minder believes with only five matches remaining he and his team-mates really need to give their all if they want to retain their Carling Premiership status for next season.

"At the minute it feels like anything that can go wrong, is going wrong," he said.

"Every time we make a mistake we are conceding goals, whereas that wasn't the case earlier on in the season; it's just hard whenever you are down at the bottom of the league things do go against you.

"However we have five games against teams who are in the same sort of position as ourselves and in my opinion every game is winnable, if we all can just up our performances.

"In my opinion every game is massive for us and every result from now until the end of the season will change the league table and hopefully we can get going at Distillery, on Saturday."

The 29-year-old admitted that Friday's display against Linfield was probably their worst performance of the season.

"There was no hunger or bite or anything to be honest and that's really, really disappointing," he added.

"I don't even know how to explain it, maybe because it was Linfield and they were going to beat us anyway, or maybe because of the run we are on at the minute, I just don't know what went wrong.

"We aren't defending the way we were at the start of the season, we are conceding goals at bad times and we haven't been scoring goals all season, now I'm not blaming the strikers, collectively we haven't been playing well.

"Their (Linfield) first goal came from a free-header and their second goal was an own goal and their third goal, how many chances did they want before they put it in."

Cullen does know that the fight is still in the dressing room and maintains they can still avoid relegation.

"There's no doubt about it we don't want to go down, the players are trying but at times everything seems to be going against us; I have been in this position before and just when you get a run of results which we are now on everything goes against you, from injuries, to suspensions and other things.

"This season since Christmas everything seems to have spiralled like that but to be honest I wouldn't play if I didn't think we could turn it around.

"I don't want to get relegated and I think we are good enough to stay up if we could just apply ourselves and get one positive result."

Recently the squad held a team-meeting and although results haven't picked up since then, the former Finn Harps man believes that meeting can help the players.

"We had a meeting a few weeks ago and a lot of home truths were said and a lot of them I think were taken on board, we have had Portadown away and Linfield at home since that meeting, but I still think boys took things on board at that meeting.

"However it was just disappointing in our lack of fight against Linfield; we lost at Portadown but we put it up to them a bit, but on Friday night we didn't and that's hard, because it should be easy to play against Linfield in terms of getting up for it."
