All Stars reunion fixture raises £2,000 for Marie Curie

A LARGE crowd of friends, family and supporters of football, in particular the women’s game, turned out in force to support the Ballymena All Stars ‘ Original Veterans’ in their charity challenge game against a Belfast Select side in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Charity.

The event which was got off the ground by Natasha Blair, Joanne Lennox, Billy O’Flaherty and Faye Green was a great success raising over £2000 for a very worthy cause in memory of founding member Kerry Barr who had passed away some time ago herself from cancer.

The game itself was a spectacle with the Ballymena girls playing way above expectations whilst the visitors side contained many former stars from yesteryear of international experience.

For information the game finished 2-1 for the visitors although the All Stars, some would say, finished the stronger.

All the girls from both teams, deserve credit for their support of the event which is now being considered as an annual event so any former players out there who may consider making a ‘comeback’ keep an eye on local press for future events.

Thanks for support of the event should go to, Sadie Butler, Fiona Blair, Nicky Blair, Anthony McCartney, Clifford Adams, Alastair Lowry, Billy Lowry, Sportshut, Ballymena Borough Council, Local Press, Davy King, Tony Corrigan, Ballymena United Social Club, ALL the many sponsors, Smithfield Arms, Carniny Amateurs, Ballymena United FC, staff at Ballymena Showgrounds and Cheryl Lamont and the Belfast Select side for helping make what was a fabulous night.
