For the second time in a number of months Newbuildings United are in search of a new first team manager.

Recently Gary Simpson stepped down after having a successful few years, then only this week Peter Allen has decided to quit the Waterside club.

This news arrives as a huge shock, particularly as the team comes down from the high of last weekend’s 7-0 victory over Roe Rovers in the Challenge Cup. Allen had been delighted with his team’s Saturday showing, but it wasn’t enough to convince him to continue the fight for this season’s Intermediate League title, while the exact motive behind his departure is still unknown.

“Peter is a natural leader and a dedicated coach,” commented one club official.

“He put everything into the club and developed a great relationship with his players.

“All the lads in the team are very disappointed that he’s gone but we need to look forward as a club, no one man is bigger than Newbuildings and we need to push on with our season.

“Peter can’t be replaced, but I have every confidence that the board will bring in the right man to lead us into the next level.”

The club would like applicants to contact Secretary Wayne Glenn by telephone (0755) 196 3273.
