The Glade outfit’s manager, Garry Campbell said: “Dergview are five levels above us and a good, well-organised side. It was a good battle but I thought we well deserved it.”

Mossley took the lead on 20 minutes when Lee Graham raced from well inside his own half before setting up Stevie Bell who fired home.

With keeper Dwayne Jenkins pulling off what his manager classed as ‘one of the best saves I’ve ever seen anywhere’, the one goal looked to be enough until Dergview scrambled an equaliser 10 minutes from time.

Extra-time produced no further goals and so it was down to penalties. Jenkins saved Dergview’s first kick and his team-mates James McKinney, Paul Harper, Graham and Kyle Harper all did the necessary.

It was ‘match-point Mossley’, only for Ryan Caskey to place his penalty too close to the keeper. However, Dergview still had to score to take the tie into sudden death, but Jenkins again sprang to the rescue.

There were also penalties in a round-four tie at the Factory Grounds where Nortel lost out to Championship 2 side Newington YC.

Newington broke the stalemate six minutes from the end of extra-time, only for Elliott McKimm to respond two minutes later. But the north Belfast side won 4-3 on penalties. Brothers Jordan and Timmy Clarke, along with McKimm, were the Nortel marksmen.

Manager Lee McCartney said: “We had the better chances in normal time, but we had key players missing and still took a Championship 2 side to the wire.”

In the Premier Division, Islandmagee went down 3-1 away to Malachians, while 1A side Larne Tech lost 2-0 at Rathfriland. Ciaran Kelly missed a penalty for the Tech and Matt Devine was sent off for two yellows.

In 1b, UUJ made it two wins on the spin with a 4-1 success over Ballywalter Rec. Dominic Melly (2), Kevin O’Neill and Ciaran McMullan got their goals.
