AMATEUR LEAGUE: Intermediate Cup joy for Mossley, Nortel and Barn United

At the Glade Mossley beat Sport and Leisure 3-1 on penalties after the thrilling tussle ended up at 3-3 by the end of extra-time.

“We stole it,” admitted Mossley manager Garry Campbell “but what a great performance, especially after playing the last half-hour and extra-time with just 10 men!”

The visitors were given a rude awakening when Lee Graham and Ryan Caskey put Mossley two up in the opening 20 minutes.

Sport clawed one back before drawing level on the hour when they first react after Dwayne Jenkins had saved a penalty. And Ricky Moore’s remarks about the spot-kick award earned him a second yellow.

Campbell’s men regained the lead thanks to an own goal, only for Sport to restore parity again.

Jenkins was the hero in the shootout, saving Sport’s first and third kicks, while they hit their fourth shot wide of the target. For Mossley, it was three out of three, with Kyle Crowe, Stephen Bell and Lee Graham doing the honours.

At Nortel there was razor sharp finishing from Mark Wilkinson as Nortel saw off Banbridge Town.

The visitors were two up inside the opening 20 minutes but Nortel manager Lee McCartney insisted: “Even when we were two down, I wasn’t worried, we were the better side and their goals came against the run of play.”

Wilkinson’s double restored parity before the break and he rounded off a superb afternoon, completing his hat-trick 20 minutes from time.

Also through are Barn United, away to Tandragee Rovers, thanks to Matt Doyle’s second half-strike, following up after Jackson’s Griffith’s penalty had been parried.
