The three points gained means the Islanders sit tenth in the Premier League table, with 17 points from 15 matches and a string of games in hand.

Manager Stephen Donald has moved to bolster his squad in recent weeks with the arrival of midfielder Ashton McDermott from Carrick Rangers and Graeme Arthur from PSNI. Also back in a red shirt is the talismanic Michael Moore, fresh from a brief spell with Irish League Premiership outfit Lisburn Distillery.

And Moore was in the groove early on against the Mals when he netted the opener, before Arthur continued his scoring run of a goal in every game by doubling their lead 10 minutes before the break.

The visitors’ response came with around 15 minutes left on the clock, but any hopes they had of claiming a point were dashed when Billy Waide popped up to net Island’s third.

This weekend fourth-placed Ards Rangers are the visitors to Wilbourne Park.

Islandmagee: Harrison, Gray, Phillips, S. Scott, Smyth, McGrath, McDermott, Moffatt, B. Waide, Moore, Arthur. Subs: Harris, Gibb, G. Scott.
