Amateur League preview

IN the Amateur League’s Premier Division Stephen Donald’s Islandmagee face a trip to Dunmurry Rec on Saturday (Feb 19). Rec will be brimming with confidence after they forced a draw against Linfield at Windsor in the JJB Sports Irish Cup at the weekend.

Island will be hoping for an improved performance on their 3-3 draw with Kilmore Rec, when Andy Waide had to ride to the rescue with a second-half hat-trick to claim a point.

Meanwhile, in Division 1C Kilroot Rec, finally dislodged from second slot by Ballywalter Rec, cannot afford any slip-ups against third-from-bottom Civil Service at Wilbourne Park. Manager Paul Hannan will be wary of how Rec needed a Jamie Sterling penalty to secure a 2-1 victory in the away fixture back in October.

Completing Saturday’s league line-up are Whitehead Eagles, at home to Shore Road side Rooftop in Division 2B.

For Barn United it is Clarence Cup action against Mossley Young Men at The Park.

Mossley manager Glen McIntyre will be hoping to welcome back ‘keeper Dwayne Jenkins, although Dave Richards was a more than able deputy on Friday night against Crumlin Star at Solitude.

Barn, who defeated Dundonald 5-1 in their last outing, might just have one eye on a late promotion push, starting off with an enticing visit to Larne Tech the following Saturday.
