Premier: Nortel settled for a point in a 1-1 draw at Comber Rec. John Rosbotham scored the equaliser just five minutes from time. “We only really started playing in the last 20 minutes and if anyone was going to win it, it was us,” said boss, Ricky Beggs.

Division 1A: Larne Tech secured their first league win since August with a 2-1 home success over Rosario YC. Ryan Thompson and sub Josh McAllister (his first for the club) were the Tech marksman. Rosario’s reply came courtesy of a Reece Moore own goal.

Barn United stumbled to a 3-1 defeat away to second-placed Downpatrick. Barn led 1-0 at the break through Gary McKee, but Down hit back with three goals. Defender Paul Mathers was shown a second yellow for conceding the penalty which resulted in Downpatrick’s second.

Division 1C: After going four games recently without conceding a league goal, Newington Rangers leaked three in one match - two of them from unforced errors. Rangers took the lead three times through debutant Chris Steele (2) and Paul Gibb but had to settle for a point in the end. Said boss, Geordie Lynn: “It should have been something like 15-3 to us. We made mistakes at the back, but we can’t keep missing chances.”

Kilroot’s Rab Carson opened the scoring inside the opening minute in the 1c derby at Mossley FC. Rec held the lead until the 55th minute. However, by then Kilroot had to make three enforced changes and it was a fitter Mossley who finished the stronger, with four goals from Lee Graham and two from strike partner Terry Lyness.

A Ross Miskimmon penalty gave 18th Newtownabbey OB the lead at Cloyne Crescent only for Iveagh United to draw level early in the second half.

Irish Cup: There was scalp for Rathfern Rangers, who exited the Irish Cup in a 5-2 defeat to Albert Foundry. Rathfern’s goals came late on, from Gary Orr and Darren Cosby, with Foundry already 5-0 up.

Lawrence Lyons scored twice in UUJ’s 2-0 win over Wellington Rec at Nortel. Lyons’ first was one straight off the training ground, following up on Padraig Scollay’s initial attempt and his second was a long-range chip.
