Amateurs prepare for Old Boys clash

A 3-0 home defeat to Kilroot Rec on December 12 has been the only action at Ferris Park during the recent cold spell, with the arctic conditions leading to a string of postponements.

With the snow putting paid to any outdoor work, training has been problematic as well, so manager Barry Taylor is demanding a big turnout at this week’s sessions as players shake off those Christmas calories in preparation for the second half of the season.

It’s been a challenging campaign to date, with the firsts currently hovering above the relegation zone in Division 1C of the NAFL. Sitting in 11th place (out of 13), the Amateurs have the following record: P14 W2 D2 L10 GF20 GA46 Pts8.

This Saturday, the firsts are home in a crunch game against 18th Newtownabbey OB, who sit just above them in the league. All support is most welcome.

The seconds are also looking forward to getting back on the field of play, having not kicked a ball in anger since an 8-0 loss away to Greencastle on November 20!

As everyone knows, results aren’t everything when it comes to reserve team football – which is just as well because the seconds find themselves rock bottom of 3F with the following record: P10 W1 D1 L8 GF5 GA37 Pts4.

The league takes a backseat this weekend as Ronnie McMurray’s side entertain Ballynahinch Utd IIs in round two of the Templeton Cup.
