Amateurs unlucky against league leaders

DROMORE were unfortunate not to gain something from the runaway league leaders with just one game of the season left to go.

The locals started off well and were on top until Cliftonvill’es first chance fell to them as a poor clearance fell to an opponent on the edge of the area who placed it through the crowded area to give them the lead.

Cliftonville doubled their lead just minutes later as a shot was well saved by Michelle Stephens but the lose ball broke to the striker for an easy finish.

The Reds continued their pressure and were awarded a dubious penalty for handball from a corner which was finished low to Michelle Stephens’ right.

Dromore soon kicked into life and a corner in by Amy-Louise Graham was headed in by Kerry Taggart and shortly after the two linked again. This time a free kick in by Amy-Louise was finished off once more by Kerry who was in impressive form on the night and was unlucky not to get her hat-trick.

The Amateurs Ladies continued their pressure but were unable to get the third goal to bring them level. Cliftonville broke down the right and after some great play scored again to restore their two goal advantage.

It could have been a bigger advantage soon after as Cliftonville won a penalty only for them to hit it over the bar.

Dromore got their third with another header as a ball over the top was headed into the bottom corner from the edge of the area by Amanda Morton.

And Dromore had a great chance to level as a cross from the left was hit wide by Lauren Gibson with the keeper stranded.

Cliftonville got their fifth with only minutes to go to seal their win and deny Dromore any chance of escaping with a point.

It was a very good performance from the Dromore girls giving Cliftonville one of their hardest games of the season in which they are yet to drop a point. Dromore remain in fourth place with the teams below them having games in hand.
