AMATEURS YOUTH SEEK A 4G PITCH

This is to enable them to apply for funding to install a 4G pitch.

According to a 2009 Sport NI report Banbridge District is short of 28 grass pitches but any new synthetic pitch would be worth four grass pitches.

The pitch at the Community Centre is also used by six other sports clubs who need to be consulted about the proposal.

Council officers will now consult with all relevent stakeholders to identify the impact of the proposal and refer back to the Leisure and Development Committee with a recommendation for a decision.

Club Chairman, Gavin Beck, said that the club was always on the look-out for new facilities.

“We have 10-11 teams amongst the Juniors and over 200 members plus Dromore Amateurs also has senior sides and the ladies team to accomodate.

“And when you take into consideration that those teams all need to train during the week itherefore makes sense for us to try and do something like this

“It would also be to the benefit of the likes of the Hockey Club - I know that on occasion they have had to cancel training sessions at Ferris Park because we have been block booked on the pitch there.

“And even then we are having to put four teams in different corners of the pitch to accomodate everyone.

“It would free up Ferris Park for the Ladies to train while giving us a purpose built base which would allow us to play all year round without the need for postponements on a Saturday due to bad weather.”

Any new facility at the Community Centre would require the installation of floodlights to allow the club to train in the evening, something which has been described as the “next step” by Mr Beck.

The pitch, which would be the first of it’s kind in Dromore, could also be used by the community as well.
