Annagh turn focus to next generation

Honours captured in the colours of Armagh City and Loughgall left the centre-back with a coveted medal collection.

However, the current Annagh United coach is keen to present the next generation with opportunities and was delighted to see two young players make Championship One debuts last weekend against Lurgan Celtic.

“You develop your game with experience, especially as a defender,” said Murphy. “It is only natural that you improve your reading of the game and decision-making ability over time.

“But it is important to give youth the chance and that is definitely a direction we are moving towards at the Annagh, with one eye on the future for sure.

“Mark Whitten came in at left-back last weekend against Lurgan Celtic and Adam White was given his debut at centre-back.

“They are just two additions to what is a pretty young squad overall but with signings made looking beyond this season.

“Both lads did well and it was just a frustrating setback to concede a third goal in injury-time to give Celtic the win.

“Chris McElroy was on target and Philip Craig scored a great goal.”

“Now we must take the positives into this weekend’s home game with Lisburn Distillery.

Kick-off will be 3 o’clock.
