Another exciting weekend for Distillery’s U10s

The Hammer complex was the venue for Lisburn Distillery U10s latest two games with St. Marys and Springfield Star and both teams continued their fine recent form with top drawer displays.

The Whites were first on the pitch against St. Marys and it didn’t take long for the boys to get their passing game going. It was no surprise to find that it was Ben Gilliland and James Clyde at the heart of many of a number of impressive attacks.

Ben was picking out James in midfield who was then moving the ball wide right to Kenzie Bradley and quick as a flash the ball was then switched to the left to Matthew Moore back inside to James or Michael Rocks who in turn were slipping balls through for Jack Bonar in attack. Only for the heroics from the opposition keeper, Jack could have many more than the one goal he ended up with.

Bradley White had a running battle with the St. Marys forward and showed great physicality to keep the dangerous striker quiet. It was a superb display from the boys who continued that form in a friendly game on Sunday with SOPYC, when Bradley got himself a couple of goals.

The U10s then had a really exciting encounter with a good Springfield Star. The Wee Whites got a couple of goals from a familar source when Ross White took a couple of chances after being set up by firstly Joanthan McCullough then Jake Donaghy.

Ben Coulter was playing some super balls out of defence up into the feet of Ross up front but eventually Springfield started to exert some pressure of their own and keeper Lewis Doyle needed to be on his toes to race off his line on numerous occasions to clear the danger. Noah Kelly got himself into some good defensive positions to make a number of important blocks but despite all their good work, Springfield managed to get a couple of deserved goals.

Jake rifled an excellent free-kick into the top corner but it was disallowed as a very slow member of the Whites’ coaching staff was still trying to get off the pitch after treating an injured player, but the best was still to come.

Spencer Maxwell got the ball from Lewis’ roll out and went on a surging run out of defence beating three players before showing great composure to play the ball into Ross’ feet. The big centre forward in turn sent Conall Cunningham racing down the left wing, Conall’s cross was measured to perfection for the on-rushing Calum Ashby who thundered the ball into the net off the underside of the bar after making a lung bursting run from midfield, a great team goal.

Conall finished the scoring finishing confidently with his trusty left peg after racing clear of the Springfield defence. A very satisfying day all round for all.
