Ards made to fight for victory

Tobermore Utd 0

Ards 2

ARDS were the visitors at Fortwilliam Park last Saturday and although the league leaders left with all three points Tobermore made them fight all the way for their victory.

Indeed the home side could have drawn first blood inside the first 10 minutes when Davy Patton hit the woodwork and Neil Lamont went close with a screamer across McKibbon’s goals.

Ards had most of the possession during an entertaining game but another solid performance from the home defence continually frustrated the visiting forward line giving them little time to play their neat passing game.

Ards continued to press without really troubling William Hassan in the home nets but as the game wore on Tobermore seemed to tire and their resolve was finally broken on 68 minutes when McDonell headed home from a good cross from the right and Dougan made the points safe 4 minutes from time when he was given too much room inside the box and slipped the ball inside Hassan’s left hand post.
