Lurgan Institute 7

For three quarters of this game Scarva Rangers competed admirably and looked more than capable of clinching a point.

They trailed Lurgan Institute by a single goal until the midway point in the second half but their hopes were buried under an avalanche of late goals.

At 2-1 Stephen Hendron did extremely well to steal possession from a Lurgan Institute defender inside the penalty area and swiftly fired the ball at goal but the visiting keeper managed to save at close range.

As the match entered its final quarter the visitors made it 3-1 and they scored a further four times without reply before the final whistle sounded.

Lurgan Institute broke the deadlock in the first half with a goal from the penalty spot but Scarva deservedly equalised when substitute Adam Maginnis unleashed a venomous low shot which flew past the helpless keeper at his near post.

The visitors re-established their lead before half time but the hosts were unlucky to be trailing at the interval after what had been an industrious and encouraging first half display.

The deluge of late goals was harsh on Scarva but to concede so many goals in the latter stages points to a lack of fitness or self belief, perhaps a bit of both.
