Ballymacash football kits prove to be popular in Uganda

There was a special delivery when local woman Debbie Craggs went on a missionary trip to rural Uganda to help at a Christian hospital, Kiwoko, whose motto is “We treat, Jesus heals”.

Debbie and her group carried with them several of the previous football kits, donated by Ballymacash YM and Debbie said the hospital staff were “over the moon” with the donation.

She added that she knew the staff would take pride in wearing them at the next charity football match.

Speaking on their time at the hospital, Debbie said they worked alongside two Ugandan teams to run two different children’s clubs, Ekissa and Affayo.

The former was for local children in the community of Kiwoko to present teachings of Jesus and the Bible through crafts and play.

Affayo was the other children’s club where the group worked with children, suffering from HIV and Aids.

Debbie said: “The children were amazing, so sick, yet so incredible.

“They fought and gave us more than we as a team could give them.”

The hospital was set up many years ago under a tree by a Bangor GP, Dr Ian Clarke, who has given life and hope to so many.

Debbie said she had to thank many people, including MP Jeffrey Donaldson, who held a coffee morning.

She thanked all those who had given clothes, books, arts and crafts and musical instruments and also the massive thanks to Ballymacash footballers.
