Ballymena & Provincial League: Day to forget for local teams

It proved a largely forgettable weekend for the Ballymena and Antrim-based teams in the Ballymena & Provincial League.

Only Antrim Rovers Swifts, in Junior Division Three, tasted victory, with defeats for the other four teams from this area.

O’GORMAN CUP, ROUND TWO

Dunloy 4, Chimney Corner 0: After a steady start by both teams Dunloy went in front through a goal scored by John John McFerran on the 23rd minute.

McFerran scored his second goal in the game on the 52nd minute followed by a penalty converted by Benny McGarry on the 68th minute that put Dunloy three goals clear.

Corner never gave up the chase but on the 88th minute Karl Fitzpatrick scored a fourth goal for Dunloy.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Ballyclare Comrades Reserves 7, Antrim Rovers 2: Goals were the order of the day in this game which the Comrades took a strong hold on with goals scored by Craig Rodd 24th and 33rd minutes and Scott Cummings 45th minute before half-time.

Jonny Rogers gave the Rovers hope after he scored a brace of goals on the 46th and 59th minutes.

This hope was short lived when Jamie McMillan scored number four for the Comrades on the 62nd minute followed by Greg McFaul scoring on the 84th and 90th minutes and Mark Shannon on the 92nd minute.

JUNIOR DIVISION TWO

Wakehurst Strollers 1, Mountainview 3: Chances came and went for both teams before an own goal conceded by Mountainview saw the Strollers go in front on the 28th minute this goal separating the teams at half-time.

Mountainview got back on level terms after Billy Brown scored on the 61st minute then went two goals clear after Adam Devenney scored on the 85th minute. Strollers pushed hard for the equaliser after this then on the 88th minute Devenney scored his second goal to seal the win.

Clough Rangers Athletic 1, Cookstown Youth 6: After a steady start by both teams Danny O’Neil put the Youth in front on the 23rd minute then saw David McClintock equalise for Clough on the 28th minute.

Cookstown went in front again after Martin McGarry scored on the 32nd minute to lead by one at half-time.

The second half belonged to the Youths who went on to score four more goals through Jon O’Neil 47th minute, Martin McGarry 50th minute, Aidan Doyle 61st minute and Martin McGarry completing his hat-trick on the 67th minute.

JUNIOR DIVISION THREE

Antrim Rovers Swifts 3, Red Star 1: Aaron Clerkin scored on the 25th minute putting the Rovers ahead.

Rovers doubled their lead on the 31st minute after Jordan McKelvey scored and led by two nil at half-time. Jordan McKelvey scored his second goal in the game on the 65th putting the Antrim side three nil in front but full marks to Red Star who never gave up getting a consolation goal when David Armstrong scored on the 87th minute.
