Ballymoney-based sides bow out of Welshman cup

IT was a day to forget for the two Ballymoney-based sides in cup action in the Ballymena & Provincial League programme.

Ballymoney United Reserves were dumped out of the Linda Welshman Memorial Cup at the opening hurdle by FC Encore, while in the second round of the same competition, Glebe Rangers Reserves bowed out after losing on penalties to Red Star.

LINDA WELSHMAN MEMORIAL CUP, ROUND ONE

Encore FC 3, Ballymoney United Reserves 1: Chances came and went for both teams in this cup tie but no goals were scored during the first-half. Things changed in the second half with Jordan Matthews putting Encore in front on the 55th minute following this with his second goal in the game on the 66th minute. Ballymoney then had to chase the game but got caught when David Smith ran into scored a third goal for Encore on the 77th minute sealing the win.

LINDA WELSHMAN MEMORIAL CUP, ROUND TWO

Red Star 1, Glebe Rangers Reserves 1 (aet, Red Star win 3-2 on pens): Both teams failed to capitalise on their chances with no goals being scored during the 90 minutes of normal time. Glebe ten went in front on the 96th minute then Noel O’Connor scored for Red Star on the 99th minute which resulted in penalty a kick shoot out which Red Star win three two.

Other result: Wakehurst Strollers 2, 3rd Ballyclare Old Boys 3.
