United showed their intent right from the kick off and took the lead on 7mins when McKinley beat Brown in the visitors goal with a glancing header. Queens came close on 16 mins when Prauter hit a cracking effort just wide of Keane in the home goal. Queens piled on the pressure and were rewarded in the 20th minute when Ferrin found Thompson unmarked the latter making no mistake blasting past Keane in the home goal. Prauter had a great effort tipped over by Keane on 35 mins and another good save from the resulting corner. Keane, deputising for the injured Moore was the busiest player on the pitch at this stage and pulled of another great save from Lavery in the 38th minute. With half time approaching Lavery beat the offside trap and tucked the ball wide of Keane in the home goal to give Queens the lead. Straight from the kick off Ballymoney attacked and Larkin found Craig who lobbed Brown in the visitors goal to equalise on the stroke of half time,

In the second half Craig fired just over the bar on 52 mins. Queens took the lead on the hour when Thompson crossed from the left and found Lavery who tapped wide of Keane in the home goal on 62 mins. Queens piled on the pressure at this stage of the game and Lavery came close on 65mins when he blasted against the post with Keane well beaten. Queens went further ahead on 70 mins when Craig fouled Thompson inside the box and Lavery converted the ensuing penalty. Ballymoney came close on 74mins when McCloskey saw his effort squirm under Brown in the home goal, skimming the post and just wide for a corner. Ballymoney closed the gap when McKinley beat the offside trap and rounded Brown to score the home team’s third. Ballymoney piled on the pressure and came close. Gillan saw his header cleared off the line by Prauter. Gillan came close again as time was running out this time heading just wide from a corner.
