Burns’ lads have been sitting in pole position in the Ballymena Intermediate League throughout the season, but Newtowne, continued to keep up the challenge, and by defeating the ‘Nure lads in the run-in a few weeks ago they set up a nervy finish. However, when they fell to Brantwood at the weekend, they handed the title to Ballynure for the first time since 2002.

“Over the years we have won the McReynolds Cup, the Crawford Cup and the league title at different times but this is the first time that we have wrapped up all three together,” enthused Burns. “It’s a nice wee treble,” he added.
