If you had asked some of club’s supporters this time last week who Danny Devlin, no doubt a few would have replied with a shrug of the shoulders.

Fast forward a week, and precious few have still to hear the promising left-back’s name.

That’s after three starring performances, which begun with a masterful display against Glenavon on Tuesday night.

It was a game that he might never have even got to play in, had boss Stuart King not abandoned his concerns.

“Danny has been very good,” enthused the Town manager. “He was thrown in at the deep end against Glenavon.

“I was a bit hesitant about putting him in because I knew Glenavon were bringing a strong team butd he was absolutely outstanding. He followed that up against Annagh United on Thursday and then against Ballymena United on Saturday.

“He did himself no harm whatsoever in those games nd thankfully he showed how good he can be. It’s up to him to keep himself in the team now and he has a great chance of getting a shirt for Saturday’s game.

“It’s great for him and great for the club too that players of his quality are coming through.”

Saturday’s game against the Sky Blues concluded a packed pre-season for the Crystal Park club, who played six match just in the last week.

“Overall, I’m really pleased with how we got on and how we have played over pre-season,” said King. “We’ve got a good week to prepare for the first game now. Tuesday’s training with be more intense than Thursday’s as we get ready for Saturday.

“I thought we did great against Ballymena The lads played some great football after the first 20 minutes. We didn’t start well and get scored but once we got a equaliser, we really kicked on. Our second goal was oustanding. We strung about 15 or 20 passess together and Clydey (Neil Clydesdale) finished it off.”
