Barca at the Brandywell

BACK in 2003 the the beginnings of arguably the greatest club side in history visited the Brandywell.

Xavi, Iniesta and Puyol were joined by erstwhile Barcelona star Ronaldinho as they took on a Candystripes side featuring Liam Coyle and Peter Hutton.

The Brazilian got on the score sheet on August 12, 2003, in what was only his sixth match for the Catalan giants and only his third match for Barcelona in Europe.

The Brandywell faithful marginally missed out on seeing Lionel Messi strut his stuff, however, as it would be a few more months before the Argentine made his debut for the Barca first time.

Nonetheless, they were treated to a dazzling display as Barca put City to the sword 0-5.

Here’s a brief slideshow of that historic game.
